Welcome to Rhymes of our times – 1st July 2004 - 30th June 2005

Price - £4.00 incl P&P

Tony Hemmings has been writing poems for most of his life. His one claim to commercial success is that for a short period his poems had a regular Sunday afternoon slot on Classic FM.

Since 11th October 2001, he has written a daily poem in the same style and format as ca be seen in his second booklet, just printed.

A booklet containing a poem each day from 1st July to the following 30th June will be published every year at this time, i.e. mid year to mid year. It is hoped that the book will create a reflection of our past twelve months, albeit subjective, suitable for a 30 secs read in the loo, the hammock, the bed or while travelling.

Some evergreens since 2001 are included on the last two pages
of the booklet.

This booklet is dedicated to the Northleach Church Restoration
Fund, to which £1 of every sale will be donated.

‘Twixt Cheltenham and Oxford the town of Northleach lies.
Amidst its ancient buildings there stands a mighty prize.
Cathedral of the Cotswolds, it lies amongst the hills.
With peels of joy and music, the neighbourhood it fills.

With gifts from wealthy merchants of wool and land it grew,
With pride and pure devotion the parish to imbue.
For centuries the worshippers looked up and saw the light,
A testament of faith divine, with beams so burning bright,

But then the fabric and the stone began to show their age,
With ravages of wind and rain a wicked war to wage.
And then the windows high above collapsed in bad decay,
Good fortune no-one stood below on such a dreadful day.

And now the scaffold fills the nave awaiting full repair,
Five hundred thousand pounds to find, enough to cause despair,
But faith we have in all our hearts to raise this massive sum,
With help from all who love this church its fate to overcome.
